Discover Brno’s murals
Mural Art is a modern art movement that has been decorating walls in public spaces with paintings since 2015. Unlike street art or graffiti, these murals are painted legally, at the request of the owner. The event took place in 2022 under the name Wall Street. The works give the entire city a unique atmosphere. Later, during the Mural & Art Feestival Urban Pictus 2024, several transformer stations in Starý Lískovec were painted with a new and exciting look.
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.”
– Steve Jobs
The authors of the paintings are both artists of the street art subculture and classical painters. They were created by Zeb One, Tomáš Jetela, Ibr_shc, the French Vincent Chignier and the Malujeme jinak group. The Mural & Art Festival Urban Pictus 2024 has been organized since 2022 and the created works of art can be viewed at more than 230 stations. Murals are mainly made on the walls of houses before reconstruction, on pillars and concrete retaining walls, and are increasingly decorating development projects. The art movement practically turns it into an open-air gallery and gives the city a new image.
“The difference between science and the arts is not that they are different sides of the same coin even, or even different parts of the same continuum, but rather, they are manifestations of the same thing. The arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity.”
– Mae Jemison
