Chateau Lednice

Once upon a time

The last time I was here was six years ago, when my sister visited me from Budapest. We toured the Chateau, the Palm House, explored the French Garden with its beautiful flowers and lakes, and visited the minaret. We had a beautiful time. We talked and laughed a lot and had a great time. It’s interesting, six years ago it seemed that my future would be completely different. Of course, life often doesn’t turn out the way we plan. A lot has changed in my life. A hard couple of years came when my father and later six of my close friends passed away, among them very young people. Most of them during the pandemic, but not because of it. It was very difficult to get through this period. My family and close friends helped a lot. Many new friendships were forged during this period. My life has changed and I have changed a lot. I became stronger.

And now I am here again at the castle I was six years ago and I feel, I am a different person today. I am much calmer and happier, even in spite of the difficulties. This is beautiful sunny summer weather and the wind blows pleasantly. The castle still fascinates me with its charm, its sophisticated style and furnishings, its beautiful paintings and sculptures. It is amazing!

The history of the castle

Chateau Lednice is one of the most beautiful complexes built in the English neo-Gothic style, which was built in the 19th century according to the plans of Georg Wingelmüller. It is located in the Lednice-Valtice area, close to the Austrian border. The castle and the areas around the castle are beautiful. A minaret that serves as a lookout point. We can see several lakes and islets, the Venetian fountain, the French garden with the Palm House. The beautiful flowers in the garden are breathtaking. The residential building of the Lednice Castle served as the summer home of the Liechtenstein family, one of Europe’s oldest noble families. Their rooms on the ground floor were used to organize meetings of the European nobility. Today, the castle functions as a museum, the prince’s suites, the children’s and governesses’ rooms can be viewed as part of various walks. With beautiful paintings and carved furniture, spiral staircases and ceilings. The Milan Knížák puppet museum is also located here.

“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.”
– Earl Nightingale
