Boat ride on the river

Brno Reservoir

Every year, as soon as the weather is good, I like to visit the Brno Reservoir. This is a very popular recreation area at the river Svratka, which is the site of many leisure events. One of the biggest events is the Ignis Brunensis fireworks competition, which usually takes place around May-June every year.

I often come here to have a picnic with my friends and family. At such times, we like to have a barbecue and later we go swim in the river. In addition to swimming, you can practice many water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, paddle boarding, windsurfing, and yachting. The wooded area surrounding the river is a popular place for hiking and cycling.

Veveří Castle

As always, this summer I again went on a boat trip on the river Svratka. The boat goes from Bystrc harbor to Veveří Castle. If the water level is not too low, it goes all the way to Veverská Bítýška. It was a wonderful sunny day. I got off the boat at Veveří Castle. I just had to walk through the forest for a few minutes and then go up the hill to the castle. Originally it was a ducal and royal castle. The legend says originally it was built as a hunting lodge in the 11th century and later in the 13th century was rebuilt as a stone castle. This is one of the oldest and largest castles in the Czech Republic.

From the castle I walked along the river bank through the forest back to the Bystrc harbour. I stopped for lunch at my favorite port restaurant. I ate chicken schnitzel with garlic potatoes and drank iced homemade raspberry lemonade. For dessert, I ordered pancakes with vanilla ice cream and Belgian chocolate. This dessert is one of the specialties of the restaurant, which is prepared a little differently every year.

It was a wonderful day! It was great to walk along the river Svratka again, see the castle and walk in the forest. I will definitely come another time!
